  • New Foundation to help Puyallup community
    Updated On: Jul 183, 2016
Employees of the Puyallup Police Department have created a Foundation to help a variety of causes encountered by officers in their daily work, but for which there is no existing means to provide relief.
"Police Officers often encounter people in their most desperate times, and we often want to help in ways that go beyond what agency policy and sometimes laws allow," explains Terry Young, one of the founding members of the foundation who is also a Sergeant for Puyallup PD.  "For example, we've encountered homes where the children have no mattresses and are sleeping on the floor.  The government can't pay for a couple of mattresses for those kids, and other charities might take weeks to respond, but we can go buy a bed and get it in that home right now."
The Puyallup Police Foundation receives its funding from contributions made by the employees of the department, from Officer to Chief, as well as its civilian staff.  Public donations are also welcome.  In addition to helping community members identified by officers as in-need, it supports programs such as Chief-for-a-Day, Special Olympics, Shop With a Cop, and so on.  A portion of the funds are also being set aside to help with the high personal costs involved when a Puyallup Police Officer is killed or seriously injured in the line of duty.
The Foundation is in the process of attaining tax-exempt status, but at this time, donations are not tax deductible.  If you would like to donate, you may send checks or money orders to:
